CHOA Meal Bags
EPC continues a tradition of providing Meal Bags for parents and families who have a difficult time affording meals during their child’s stay in the hospital. Each bag contains breakfast through dinner items, with a few snacks. Over the past few years our community has joined with the Islamic Community Center of Atlanta and the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Atlanta to purchase and collect supplies of items needed. During the Lenten season we gather to put together several hundred Meal Bags. Recently in response to an additional need, we’ve collected and packaged PJ Packs containing a set of pajamas, socks and underwear for children for babies and children enduring a lengthy hospital stay.
Clifton Night Shelter
The EPC Mission Team works with Clifton Sanctuary Ministries, a transformative community shelter for homeless men. We gather a small group of 5-6 volunteers periodically to prepare and/or serve a hearty dinner for the men living at the shelter. The meal, prepared offsite and brought to Clifton, serves 15 men The meals are low sodium and include no pork, but typically includes a meat, a vegetable, bread, a dessert, and drink.
L’Arche Atlanta
EPC helps support L’Arche Atlanta by participating in fund-raisers like the “Walk Together Event” and various other activities. L’Arche Atlanta is a non-profit, house-based community that celebrates the gifts of people with and without intellectual disabilities. At L’Arche Atlanta, people with and without disabilities are welcomed with open arms, viewing each other as ambassadors for belonging — people who passionately contribute their gifts and experiences for the good of society. This attitude permeates everything from hosting community events for families with adults with disabilities to state-level advocacy work.
Other Mission Projects
Throughout the year, we collect items for Decatur Cooperative Ministries and Mercy Church Atlanta; participate in the MLK Jr. Weekend of Service; and financially support initiatives such as The Haiti Ecovillage School Partnership, Villa International, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, PC(USA) Missionaries, and PC(USA) Special Offerings.
